 # 에피소드 1 '파일럿' (Pilot)
7개월 된 뱃속의 아기를 사산한 후 절망에 빠져 있던 벤과 비비엔 부부. 그런데 설상가상으로 벤이 자신이 가르치던 학생과 정사를 나누는 모습을 비비엔에게 들키고 만다. 하지만 서로에 대한 사랑으로 극복하기 위해 동부에서 서부로 이사를 결심한다. 그런데 시세의 1/4 가격에 산 집이 어딘지 이상하다. 이전 주인 커플이 싸움 끝에 한 사람이 다른 한 사람을 죽이고 자살했다는 건 알고 있었지만 이웃집 여자와 다운증후군 딸도, 정신과 의사인 벤이 맡은 10대 남자아이도, 불쑥 찾아온 가정부 모이라도 모두 이상하기만 하다. 게다가 벤은 자신의 집을 몰래 들여다보던 한 남자가 조깅하는데 따라붙은 걸 보고 당황하기도 한다. 그리고 그 남자에게서 충격적인 이야기를 듣게 되는데...
